My trip to Aintree on Friday didn’t get off to the best start when I muddled up my flight times. I thought I had to leave for the airport at 7am but that was the actual flight time I was lying in bed at 6am when the penny finally dropped and to say it was a mad rush would be a massive understatement. I got to the airport with seconds to spare, had to ditch my bag and only go on with hand luggage and was last to board the plane.Up until 5pm this evening I wasn’t exactly thinking my fortunes had changed much for the better either with Petit Mouchoir getting beat but then ……WOW. I’ve finally managed to win the race I’ve always wanted to win – the Grand National As I went past the line I can’t tell you the different things that were going through my mind.I thought about my Mum, I thought about Pat Smullen, I thought about my family and kids at home, I thought about the time that Dad used to cut the grass when I was a kid – I loved it when he did that as we used to build our own Aintree fences. You have no idea just how many times I’ve ridden this race in my mind and at home. It’s more than a dream come true.As for Tiger Roll, what can I say about him that hasn’t already been said. He gave me a great feel going down to the start and was on his game today. When we went and looked at the first he was ready for the biggest race of his life – he was clever the whole way round and he deserves this today.I’m also thrilled for the genius that is Gordon Elliott who prepared this horse to perfection for his two big races of the season – the Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham and the Grand National. He is an unbelievable trainer and deserves all the credit he will get over the coming days.I’d also like to thank Michael O’Leary and the Gigginstown team for giving me the chance to fulfil a lifetimes ambition.I feel for David (Mullins) who got within a whisker at the line on Pleasant Company but he’s got a grand record in the race having won it in on Rule The World and I’m sure he’ll get plenty more good chances. As for all you punters that have got your £50 bonus from Star …. I told you yesterday we had a lottery ticket.  Well, we only went and won it !!!Best WishesDAVY YOUR SAYIf you have a question for Davy drop us a line at [email protected] and we’ll try and include in the next blog…last_img
