Finally a Simpsons Esports Episode

first_img Watch: Thanos (Finally) Wipes Out The SimpsonsTop Thanksgiving TV Episodes to Stream Right Now The Simpsons has been on for so long that even I’m running out of jokes/complaints about how long The Simpsons has been on. Just a few weeks ago, after the cathartic thrill of watching Thanos wipe out the yellow family past its prime, I vented about how the classic comedy show has been a tired and repetitive unfunny shell of its former self for decades. So I don’t want to do that again, if only to not be a hypocrite. But man is it hard to not dunk on modern day Simpsons, especially as a games journalist, when they’re out here in 2019 doing an episode about Bart joining an esports team. See for yourself.<span data-mce-type=”bookmark” style=”display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;” class=”mce_SELRES_start”></span><span data-mce-type=”bookmark” style=”display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;” class=”mce_SELRES_start”></span>This episode, “E My Sports,” aired over this past weekend and has Bart getting into the pro gaming scene with characters like Nelson, Martin, and Krusty’s daughter for some reason. Again, having not watched the show in years I don’t know if she just became a recurring character. The game in question is a fake MOBA called Conflict of Enemies, so if you want to hear these cartoon children voiced by aging adults talk about “ganking” here’s your chance. Considering the history of fake Simpsons video games though my heart still belongs to Bonestorm and Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge. The episode seems to have gotten okay reviews for a 30th(!) season Simpsons episode. But arguably more interesting is what went on behind the scenes to make it happen. The writers collaborated with Riot Games (makers of League of Legends, a real MOBA with an equally fake-sounding name) to make sure the depiction of the culture wasn’t totally out of touch. Commentator David “Phreak” Turley also guest-starred as himself. It reminds us of the World of Warcraft episode of South Park…. from 13 years ago.So if you want to see Bart Simpson with a gross nerd mustache earn real money for playing a fake version of a bad video game, go catch a rerun of “E My Sports.” For more on The Simpsons, we’ve got plenty of content that’s frankly way better than watching the show.
